M-WERC Members Focus on Energy Efficiency
Industrial Energy Efficiency Working Group to host a conference Sept 21
Milwaukee, WI –M-WERC’s Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) Working Group will host a unique conference on September 21, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The event is located at the M-WERC Energy Innovation Center, 4201 N 27th Street, Milwaukee WI 53216
“The Business Case for Industrial Energy Efficiency” conference is designed to be a highly efficient, one-stop application oriented conference, for small to medium sized manufacturers wanting to develop actionable and money saving strategies.
The conference is geared for owners, executives, and key decision makers of small-mid size manufacturers, utility account managers, industrial energy efficiency consultants, and utility trade allies. It will cover multiple examples of leveraging external resources, and smart investments. Case studies will be presented by Wisconsin small to mid-size manufacturers who have made attractive investments in Energy Efficiency.
The key note, Trending Toward the Future “Critical Issues Facing Manufacturing”, will be given by Mr. Buckley Brinkman, Executive Director/CEO Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity.
Presentations will also be made by Wisconsin utilities and M-WERC members and partners including WMEP, Focus on Energy, Franklin Energy, Godfrey & Kahn and the WI Office on Energy Innovation.
This conference is designed to provide insight on how to:
- Reduce energy bills while improving production quantity and quality
- Identify the most cost effective IEE options
- Develop strong business cases for IEE investment
- Identify incentives and financing available to support investments
- Develop methods to justify and sell energy efficiency projects to management/leadership

Integrated Anaerobic Digester System Program
The State of Wisconsin is exploring innovation in manure management that includes approaches to add efficiency to solids and liquids handling, decrease agricultural wastewater volumes, reduce hauling costs, improve the agricultural benefits of the materials that are land applied, address pathogens, and maximize the renewable energy benefits of anaerobic digesters. To this end, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection have put forward the Integrated Anaerobic Digester System Program and a Request for Proposals (RFP). A successful proposal will involve the creation of a consortium of parties using contractual means to build, operate and maintain a system that includes renewable energy production, water treatment, pathogen reductions, and transport of manure to and from a centralized location, among other innovations.

WECC's Energy Finance Solutions Launches PACE Wisconsin Program
MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - December 05, 2016) - WECC's Energy Finance Solutions (EFS) has launched PACE Wisconsin, a statewide program which enables commercial property owners to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation improvements. The program, which is now available for implementation by Wisconsin municipalities and counties, will be administered by EFS.

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association Receives Approval for Veterans Education
The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is thrilled to announce that a number of our solar and wind training courses have been approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). We can now proudly offer educational opportunities and benefits to veterans through the use of their GI benefits while training at MREA facilities in Custer and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The solar job market has increased 20% since 2012, and more than 50 people begin working in the solar energy field every day. It’s one of the fastest growing industries in the US, with 11 times more installations today than in 2008.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 4.1% of the Wisconsin veteran population was unemployed in 2015. The MREA’s VA-approved training will give those who have served an opportunity to join the growing renewable energy industry. Jobs in solar and wind not only help more veterans enter the workforce, but they also promote more domestic energy production, which lessens our nation's dependence on foreign oil.
Solar career opportunities are not limited to installation only. MREA’s approved and accredited coursework provides students training for entry-level positions in sales and finance, operations and maintenance, site assessment, project management, and more.
Approved MREA courses for veteran students include:
· Basic Photovoltaics (PV 101)
· PV Site Assessor Training (PV 201)
· PV System Design (PV 202)
· PV Design and Installation Lab (PV 301)
· Wind Turbine Design and Construction (W 306)
This October, the MREA will hold an intensive PV training progression at our headquarters in Custer, WI:
· PV 101 – Tuesday, October 4
· PV 201 – Wednesday, October 5
· PV 202 – Thursday & Friday, October 6-7
· PV 301 – Tuesday-Friday, October 11-14
The MREA is in the process of getting more courses approved, and expanding our approval to other Midwest states.

Wisconsin Biogas Survey
The Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation is proud to present the results of the Wisconsin Biogas Survey, a comprehensive look into the state's robust biogas industry.
In total, OEI surveyed representatives from 146 facilities including the majority of those in each of four main industry sectors. The survey responses outlined four primary challenges:
· Need for proper maintenance and support for cost-effective and safe operation of electricity generators,
· Lack of inter-sector collaboration and information sharing,
· Insufficient revenue generation for successful biogas project implementation, and
· The establishment of and adherence to effective anaerobic digester system operation and maintenance procedures.
The report highlights the number of facilities in operation, the capacity of renewable energy produced, and potential solutions to key problems facing this industry. Wisconsin has long been a leader in use of biogas systems and anaerobic digester technology, and has also become home to numerous anaerobic digester design companies and affiliated businesses that support biogas systems and equipment. These businesses are important to the state's economy, and the use of biogas systems is recognized as a desirable way to produce and utilize renewable energy.

Gundersen Health System, a previous WI SEO grant recipient, is providing leadership for the healthcare industry to demonstrate that "green" is a healthy, socially responsible and economically beneficial strategy. Having nearly reached its goal of meeting 100 percent of its energy needs in 2014 through the utilization of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures, Gundersen Health system intends to share some of what it has learned throughout this journey in upcoming educational programs.
